Why Budgie Smugglers?

Why Budgie Smugglers?

I know what you’re thinking… Budgie smugglers and strongmen? Those two worlds should definitely not mix.

But we disagree.

Yes, they’re a bit of fun, and they’re definitely eye-catching, but there’s also a meaningful reason behind our strongman budgie smugglers.

Social media constantly shows us what men are supposedly meant to look like. Whether it’s Instagram, TikTok or the cover of a Men’s Health magazine, we’re living in an age where body shape and size seem to matter more than ever. That pressure can have a serious effect on men’s mental health, regardless of their age, size or background.

In 2025, I became England’s Strongest Man and finished fifth at World’s Strongest Man, reaching my first-ever WSM final. Yet despite everything my body had allowed me to achieve, my body confidence was at an all-time low.

Growing up, I was always the lean kid (some would call it skinny) - I always had a six-pack and felt completely comfortable taking my top off. Fast-forward five or six years and I’d doubled my bodyweight. The abs had disappeared and I’d developed a bit of a power belly. I was still in “good shape,” just a very different kind of shape.

Even so, I sometimes found myself worrying about how I looked, but when I stopped to think about it, that felt ridiculous.

This body had made me the strongest man in England. It had carried me to fifth place in the world. It had broken world records and allowed me to achieve things I never thought would be possible. Yet I was still letting intrusive thoughts convince me that it wasn’t good enough.

So, in rebellion against those thoughts, I decided: sod it.

I wanted to partner with one of the biggest budgie-smuggler companies in the world and place what might be the largest average-size order they’ve ever received.

The idea was simple: celebrate male bodies of every shape and size. Hopefully, seeing some of their favourite strongmen proudly rocking a pair, with absolutely no shame, might inspire other men to feel a little more confident in their own bodies too.

The moral of the story is that we’re all guilty of taking life too seriously sometimes. So why not create a men’s swimwear collection that’s silly, bold and completely out there, while also reminding men that it’s okay to be proud of their bodies?

We’re all on different journeys, after all.

This body has allowed me to do things I never thought possible. With titles, world records and plenty of cool sh*t under my belt, I’m no longer afraid to embarrass Daisy by rocking a pair of budgie smugglers on the beach.

Join the movement, don’t be shy and represent the brand in the strongest way possible.
